Dearest gentlereader... just kidding. You will not find any Mayfair gossip here.
I was feeling like saving $90 a year for a Wordpress subscription, so I engaged the use of ChatGPT and created myself a new website.
I spent about two days with minimal frustration over AI halucinations and weird answers to my prompts and generated this very website using all of my favorite tools, an AWS LAMP stack, WinSCP, Putty, my laptop and ChatGPT. My wife was thrilled, I'm sure.
It did cause me to think about the potential impact of AI on the vocation of web developing. I have some meager knowledge of websites and some code used for such endeavors, so I knew what to put in my prompts to get what I needed. Someone with lesser knowledge could have probably created an equally sufficient website with only a little more time and, perhaps, the addition of a good search engine.
It worries me a little. I feel like my current job as a Systems Administrator is relatively safe, although I'd be lying if I told you that I haven't used AI in the execution of my job duties.
As the technology becomes more sophisticated than it already is, I feel like there are definitely some jobs that will be in trouble.
Let this be my public service annoucement... if you haven't used AI already, you are already WAY behind. Being knowledgeable of emerging technologies doesn't mean you have to drink all the Kool-Aid, it just means that you are staying relevent in a very quickly changing technological World.
