This is my youngest son, John, who works at the Hamilton YMCA, in Chattanooga, as a personal trainer.

Melissa and I have recently joined the Y and, as part of the membership, we receive a consultation from one of the trainers there. In our case, John was the guy. I had my consultation today and it was really the first time I had experienced John doing what John does for a living, on a personal level.

I could not be prouder. He was professional, attentive, asked poignant questions, and made it a very pleasant experience. I was also happy to learn that I had "no major muscle imbalances." :)

I have seen my other two children in their professional element and even work for the same company and in the same division as one of them. John's vocation is probably the furthest from what I do. I have always lamented not being familiar enough with what he does, as a personal trainer, to offer advice. I know it isn't expected, but I feel like when I am not knowledgeable enough about something to provide guidance to my children, I see it as a personal failing of mine... even though it is unreasonable to think that way.

I pray that God smiles upon him and his chosen vocation to see to it that he is able to make a proper, if not lucrative, living doing what he loves. I feel like everyone should be able to sustain themselves and family, by doing what they love.
